Road Manual: Vega Chargers

On this page you will find the steps to connect the ALOHA Lander charger to the Road platform.

Configuration Requirements

  • Road Sim card (optional), EVSE ID, configuration manual for the installer and registration manual for the owner of the charging station

  • Installation manual ALOHA Lander

  • Configuration device: laptop

  • Ethernet cable

Follow the steps

Important: Use the ALOHA Lander installation manual to complete the installation of the charger. The installation manual provides explanations and procedures for a safe installation of the charging station.

Step 1: Inserting the SIM card

  1. Make sure that the power is switched off at the Charging station.

  2. Open the door and locate the modem, a SIM icon is marked on the modem PCB (A5).

  3. Insert the SIM card with the flat corner facing bottom-right until the SIM is properly inserted.

Step 2: Connecting the configuration device to the charger

  1. Make sure that there are no vehicles charging.

  2. Open the frontal door of the charging station.

  3. Plug the Ethernet cable into your service laptop and into the Ethernet port located just behind
    the HMI screen, on the A7 PCB. Use the Ethernet port located next to the USB port.

Step 3: Configure a fixed IP on your service laptop

The Ethernet IP of the charging station is 192.168.1.100. The procedure to configure a fixed IP can be done using either a Microsoft or a MAC laptop:

Connection using a Microsoft laptop:

  1. Open Control Panel and click on Network and Internet. Make sure the View by on the top right of the control panel is set to Category.

2. Click on Network and Sharing Center.

3. Click Change adapter settings in the left menu.

4. Double-click on the Ethernet adapter to open its properties.

5. On the Networking tab, double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

6. On the General set the following IP address:

IP address: 192.168.1.50
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

7. Click on Validate settings upon exit and then click on OK. The host computer configuration is complete and the static IP is 192.168.1.50.

Connection using a MAC laptop:

  1. Click on the Apple icon, then click on System Preferences.

2. Open Network.

3. Select Ethernet and click on Advanced.

4. In the network settings click on TCP/IP, set the next fields and click on OK:
Configure IPv4: Manually
IPv4 Address: 192.168.1.50
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

5. Click on Apply and make sure that the Ethernet is connected (check if the dot is green). The host computer configuration is complete and the static IP is 192.168.1.50.

Step 4: Enter the embedded web server (EWS).

To access the EWS, open an internet browser on the service laptop and write down
http://192.168.1.100:8585 in the search bar.

Step 5: Change the Authentication settings

On the Authentication page, turn the User authentication on and select the OCPP-RFID authentication option. Disable Autocharge to require users to validate with a mobile app, RFID tag or other type of authentication to initiate a transaction.

Step 6: Change the Connectivity settings

On the Connectivity page, you can choose the connection type for the charging station. The drop-down will give you the following two options:

  • Ethernet: connection between the charging station and the central system is done by a Local Area Network (LAN).

  • Cellular: connection between the charging station and the central system is done by LTE (4G)

Enter the following values in the Cellular menu if you’re using an Road SIM card:

  • SIM card PIN: ‘Not necessary’

  • APN Login: 'Not necessary’

  • APN:

    • When using a white Road SIM card or another connection method: m2m.services

    • When using a purple Road SIM card: road.io

Step 7: Change the OCPP settings

On the OCPP Settings page, enter the following values to set up the connection with the Road backend:

  • Central system endpoint:

    • When using a white Road SIM card or another connection method: ws://ocpp.road.io/<provider-slug>

    • When using a purple Road SIM card: ws://ocpp-internal.road.io/<provider-slug>

  • Charge box ID: ‘Fill in the unique serial number of the charging station’ (see System information page)

Step 8: Click on the Apply and reboot button at the top-right side of the page to save the settings.

The charging station is now connected to the Road platform!
