How does it work?

The operational status of a charging station will be displayed on the charging station provider’s admin screen and the charge station overview page. This update replaces the "Setup" column, providing a clearer and more accessible overview of each station’s status.

There are three ways of updating the operational status:

  1. Use More > Update Operational status

  2. Go to charging station overview and use edit icon

  3. Bulk update: Select one or more stations via the checkbox and go to Update Station settings > Choose for Operational status.

Option 2 (Update operational status)

Option 3 (Bulk update Operational status)

How do status transitions work?

When selecting a single charging station, you will see its current operational status along with the available statuses it can transition to.

Automated Transitions: The status will automatically change from Onboarding → Activation → Live, depending on the charger's setup and account configuration.

  1. Onboarding status: When a charging station is first added to the system, it starts in Onboarding. This phase represents the initial setup, where the device is configured (auto-configuration completed) and connectors are set up. Once this process is finished, the system automatically transitions the station to Activation.

  2. Activation: In this stage, key configuration details—such as account assignments, locations, billing plans, and station costs—are set by the provider or by inviting the customer to complete them. Once these configurations are successfully completed, the system automatically transitions the station to Live status.

  3. Live: The Live status means the charging station is fully operational, available for use, and subscription billing is active.

Manual Transitions: This applies to custom statuses and other system statuses. A charging station will only enter these statuses if it is manually changed.

As shown in the screenshot below, unavailable statuses are also displayed. Possible reasons include:

  • The status is part of an automated transition and cannot be changed manually.

  • The charger is already in Live status, meaning it cannot be moved back to Onboarding or Activation.

  • The operational status cannot be changed because required information is missing. For example, if the status requires billing to be enabled, the station can only transition if all necessary billing details are provided.

Archived status (IMPORTANT)

With the introduction of operational statuses, the option to disable a station will be removed from the dashboard and replaced by the "Archived" status.

For API customers, the Disabled status will still be available, but it will always be reflected in the operational status.

When a station is Archived, it will no longer appear in any installer or charge station account overview, whether for an account admin or a charge station owner.

Configuration/settings

Default operational statuses

The default operational statuses can be reviewed here.

The "+ Create Status" button allows you to add custom operational statuses.

  1. This allows you to create a status by adding a name, description, and color coding.

  2. By default, all stations start with the Onboarding status. If you want a custom status to be applied when a station is created, you can select "Is Initial".

  3. Optional: If you want to create a custom status as an alias for a system status (e.g., to use a different name), you can select a preferred parent status. The new status will inherit its roaming, charger, and billing settings and transition automatically if applicable.

If a parent status is linked, the original system status will no longer be available as a selectable operational status.

  4. For each custom status, you need to set a roaming, charger, and billing status or choose to keep them as "No change".

    1. Roaming Status: When a station transitions to this operational status, you can define its roaming status. The station can use OCPI standard statuses.

    2. Blocked, Inoperative, Out of Order, Planned, Removed, Reserved;

    3. If you want the roaming status to inherit the status provided by the charging station (e.g., Available, Charging), set the roaming status to "No change".

    4. If you want the roaming status to not change compared to a previous operational status, set the roaming status to "No change".

  5. Charger Status: If a station transitions to this operational status, define what the charger status should be. It will be allowed to use the OCPP standard statuses.

    1. Operative, inoperative;

    2. If you want the charger status to not change compared to a previous operational status, set the charger status to "No change".

  6. Billing Status: If a station transitions to this operational status, define whether billing should be Enabled or Disabled. This setting determines whether subscription billing for the charger is active or not.

    1. If you want the billing status to not change compared to a previous operational status, set the billing status to "No change".
