Road Manual: Nidec DC Tower

On this page you will find the steps to connect the Nidec DC Tower charger to the Road platform.

Configuration Requirements

  • Road Sim card (optional), EVSE ID, configuration manual for the installer and registration manual for the owner of the charging station

  • Installation manual DirectPowerPS DC Tower 120/360

  • Configuration device: laptop

  • Simcard or ethernet cable

Follow the steps

Step 1: Use the Installation manual of the DC Tower to savely complete the installation of the charger.

Step 2: Connect the EV charger to the internet via ethernet or a sim card.

  • Ethernet:

Connect the ethernet cable to the OCPP ethernet port (See picture below).

  • Sim card:

Insert the sim card into the sim 1 slot on the OCPP router (See picture below).

Step 3: Adjust the network settings of the charger via the Nidec BYS app or the local config tool.

  • By Your Side app:

  1. Navigate to Network Settings of the EV charger.

2. Change the OCPP connectivity to mobile or ethernet dependent on the connection method used.

  • Mobile (sim card):

    • Fill in the following APN name if you’re using an Road sim card:

      • When using a white Road SIM card or another connection method: m2m.services

      • When using a purple Road SIM card: road.io

    • Leave the mobile username and password empty

  • Ethernet:

    • Leave the IP address, netmask, gateway and DNS server empty if you’re connecting to a DHCP network

    • Manually enter the address, netmask, gateway and DNS server if you’re not connecting to a DHCP network

  • Local config tool:

  1. Connect to the SCI Ethernet port on the charger.

2. Configure your laptop’s IP address to 192.168.10.2 and Subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 from the network settings.

3. Then type the address http://192.168.10.1:81/configurator into your browser.

4. Log in using the following credentials:

  • Username: operator

  • Password: #bYugOM6w@7ABFc;5a9UB:Cn.g%YZy

5. Navigate to the Ocpp tab.

6. Change the OCPP connectivity to mobile or ethernet dependent on the connection method used.

  • Mobile (sim card):

    • Fill in the following APN name if you’re using an Road sim card:

      • When using a white Road SIM card or another connection method: m2m.services

      • When using a purple Road SIM card: road.io

    • Leave the mobile username and password empty

  • Ethernet:

    • Leave the IP address, netmask, gateway and DNS server empty if you’re connecting to a DHCP network

    • Manually enter the address, netmask, gateway and DNS server if you’re not connecting to a DHCP network

Step 4: Adjust the OCPP settings of the charger via the Nidec BYS app or the local config tool:

  1. Navigate to Network Settings of the EV charger.

  2. Change the connection string to the following URL:

    • When using a white Road SIM card or another connection method: ws://ocpp.road.io/<provider-slug>/DC-xxxxxx

    • When using a purple Road SIM card: ws://ocpp-internal.road.io/<provider-slug>/DC-xxxxxx

    • Replace the xxxxxx with the EV charger serial number.

  3. Restart the charger.

The charging station is now connected to the Road platform!
